Past and present converge as if to confirm our potential. What we were, and are, seem only slightly separated by time, and we’re left to wonder how long, and what form, our next iteration will take.
What to do at this particular fork? Succumb to the questions, the doubts, the what-ifs and regrets? Or rejoice in the knowledge that wisdom requires us to travel a winding road? To question our experience, to dig deep enough to find the treasure that the process of self-discovery slowly (but surely) reveals.
Maybe we can walk both roads, so long as we end up on the latter. Or maybe they’re the same road, separating us from our future much like we are from our past.
If we had it to do over again, I think we’d all change some things. Much as we may be content with where, and who, we are, it’s unlikely we’d choose to replicate on every detail. That said, today is our future’s past. It’s the place and time we’ll one day look back on and formulate our what-ifs.
If we’ve got changes to make, best to do so now. It’s a much better strategy than regret.

Great motivating and inspiring piece. One to reread and contemplate.
” today is our future’s past.”
Now that’s something to think about!
Hey BF…I think certain times, certain events, force us to look inward and question. Me more than others, surely. But no matter how many times I do it, I come back around to the same conclusion. There’s only now.
i don’t know the particulars but you live truth and you radiate substance in everything you write…so to me that comes from a place of getting what matters most.
unsolicited nudge: think of whatever this step is as for the now. less pressure, more play. you never let go of a thing. all you need goes with you. it’s not so extreme that way…not so this or that…and everything you are and need to be will be and is with you. hugs for the constant good you are about.
Hey Tre,
I love the way you think, and honestly, I tend to think similarly, but putting it into action, living it…that’s the challenge. Thanks for always bringing me closer. Oh, and I’m always open to your unsolicited nudges.
Great blog and I really loved it. It’s what the Buddha said “Forget about the past, live in the present and think about the future”. This is something we should all think about it and simply let ourselves shape us.
Thanks,
Thank you Shadab. Seems so simple, doesn’t it? “Live in the present”. I often wonder why it’s so difficult in practice. Is it a result of our society’s obsession with celebrity and materialistic wealth? Or is it an enduring human condition that has afflicted men and women throughout history? Perhaps a combination…
Thanks for your reply Jeb and yes we can all live in present but there are too many bad things happening out there and it’s like there’s a “cloaked” sheet right in front of us which suffices to what I would say “bad things” and it lures us all into being silly and unrealistic. I for once always look for solutions because we always love to point out problems but we never look for solutions which is easy to solve with by making it harmonious.
I just believe in one thing and that is “being happy and simple” in my own state of mind. Life is filled with endless Accolades and if you can really come up and reach to those milestones in order to have your success by simply fighting and living in the present, strive with diligence and you will get it. Some does and some don’t. This is life and there aren’t any logic behind this. You want something and you get it with “simplicity”.
This is of course what I think and believe.
